In one of our recent articles, we mentioned door hanger marketing as one of the most effective zero budget marketing methods. Ugandan businesses do not commonly use this marketing technique. I haven’t come across a company in Uganda marketing using door hangers.
What Is Door Hanger Marketing?
Door hanger marketing is a marketing technique whereby printed material is used to hang on the doors, thus the name door hangers. Door hangers are a print advertising aid bearing marketing messages, which you hang on doors of your prospects’ homes, offices or businesses. People use them to promote their products and services. They are such a great marketing tool because they allow you to target specific people in specific areas and demographics.
All that you need to do is to come up with a good design that will command attention among your target customers. If you don’t have excellent design skills, you can hire someone to do it for you. Print a good number of them with your company name, contact information and the products/services you offer. Punch a hole in each of them. After office hours, move with them to your target customers’ office and hang them on their office doors. When they come to work in the morning, they will not miss seeing them as they open the doors.
Alternatively, move to residential areas where your target customers live and hang them on the doors in their homes. When they return from work, they are welcomed by the door hangers as they open to enter. Briefly, that’s what door hanger marketing is all about.

Why Is Door Hanger Marketing an Excellent Marketing Technique?
#1 – Target specific people
Because you place door hangers on door handles in your prospects’ homes, offices and businesses, it’s practically impossible to ignore them. In most cases, people see them and read the marketing message on them. You, therefore, target specific people within a particular area and the return on investment is high.
#2 – Cost effective
Door hanger marketing is cost-effective compared to other print advertising methods. You can personally design door hangers on your computer, print them out and distribute them if you have time.
#3 – Very versatile
You can use door hangers in various ways to market your business. For example, you can use them to announce a new business, promote a sale or an event, introduce a new product or service, educate customers about your products and services and even promote a political candidate. Whichever you want to popularise, door hanger marketing will effectively bring you satisfactory results.
How Can You Distribute Your Door Hangers?

There are four ways you can go over the distribution process.
First, you can do it personally if you have the time. Just find time in the evening when people have left offices and hang them on doors in a specific place. You can make a plan for this and work according to it.
Secondly, you can hire someone to distribute them for you if you cannot find time to do it yourself. However, you will have to pay for outsourcing your door hanger distribution.
Thirdly, you can ask your family members or friends to distribute the door hangers for you freely. It reduces your distribution costs.
Lastly, use your staff to distribute your door hangers to your target customers. It’s essential to work with a plan so that you don’t have to distribute them haphazardly.
Conclusion
Door hanger marketing is an effective marketing technique many Ugandans have not yet explored. Many businesses in the Uganda market with brochures, which are expensive to produce; however, they are not as effective as door hangers. It’s why I appeal to small businesses with limited budgets to embrace door hanger marketing because it’s not an expensive promotional way to get the word out to a large group of potential customers.
